Attempt at Soft Focus
Just me trying out different effects and hoping they work. Nothing much here although I would be interested to see if following the Soft Focus tutorial seems to have worked here.

The top shot is the original and the second is with the soft focus applied.

Yep, that seems to have worked. If you want it to have more of a white glow effect you can either add Screen underneath the overlay/gaussian blur layer, go to filter, render, diffuse glow and play around with the settings there or add a new layer, fill with white and change the opacity to soft line, erase the bits of white you don't need.

Lighting also plays a big part in getting the soft focus to work properly. If you can, set up a light that shines in front of her so it will reflect on her face unless you wanted the effect of the light to be coming from behind her if that makes any sort of sense!

I wondered about the lighting after I finished it. There is a large window behind her and the lighting is "natural". I didn't think of additional lighting until afterwards.

But the extra tips I am definitely going to try. I never understood how the layers worked. I still don't but I understand more than I did...

Thank you!

That should be soft light not soft line. Grrrr. It's only 8.30am here and I am still half asleep!
